GURU’S DAILY INSIGHT
Action to be taken on false complaints
Para 3.12.1 & 3.12.3 of the Vigilance Manual 2017
If a complaint against a public servant is found to be malicious, vexatious, or unfounded, it should be treated seriously. Such complaints undermine the integrity of the vigilance system and can cause unnecessary harm to the accused public servant.
If the complaint is determined to be false, action should be considered against the complainant for making a false complaint.
If the complainant is a public servant and is found to have filed a false complaint, Departmental action may be considered as an alternative to prosecution.
False complaints
should not only be investigated thoroughly but also met with appropriate
actions to discourage their recurrence, particularly when public
servants are involved.
