 Temporary Transfer – clarification about the spell of transfer

• As per DOP orders dated 17.1.2019 and subsequent modifications vide letter dated 2.9.2021 and 9.7.2024, the following is the provision of temporary transfer.

• Temporary transfer shall be allowed for a maximum period of three years, in the entire service, in one spell or two spells.

• However, there shall be a minimum gap of three years between two spells of temporary transfer.

• If official promoted during temporary transfer, such official shall be relieved immediately but not later than one month to join the promoted post failing which he shall be debarred for promotion for one year.

• Now the DOP issued clarification about the three years gap in its letter dated 12.11.2024.

• In case of officials joined the promoted post during the intervening period of temporary transfer this will be treated as a single spell of temporary transfer.

• If the official subsequently applies for second spell of temporary transfer, they will be eligible only after completing one year of service in the new cadre, the condition of a three year gap should not apply.
